About
As the name shows, this is just WordPress’s version of the jQuery Lightbox Plugin written by balupton, working perfectly with WordPress 2.2 or up, and fully compatible with K2!
Instructions
Just download the plugin, unzip the files to the wp-content\plugins folder and activate the plugin in WordPress options.
Then, every time you want to use the Lightbox effect, just place a link to the image, and add the rel=”lightbox” attribute to it, in order to activate the effect when the link is clicked. You can also use rel=”lightbox-album” replacing album by a any keyword to group some pictures on an album!
Sample
Click the image bellow!
HTML code sample:
<a href="image.png" title="Image Title" rel="lightbox"><img src="image_thumbnail.png" alt="Image Title" /></a>

Thanks for this great plugin. I wanted to make some slight modifications and wondered if you could help me figure out how to:
1) Remove the “Download” link and just have the description appear, as plain text (not bolded)
2) Is it possible to have a gallery of images in the lightbox show, on a post that only displays a single image? If so, how do i set this up?
Thanks,
Peter
For the link and bold, you’ll have to edit the lightbox.js file and manually change what you need! For the gallery, on the links instead of rel=”lightbox” set rel=”lightbox-xxxxx” and replace “xxxxx” for some id of your own!

Thank you for a great plugin. I can get it to work with one small image showing a larger image when I click on it.
How do I click on one image and have is allow me to view a gallery of pics one at a time?
This is the link that I have working with a larger pic, I don’t know what code I need to show the gallery.
I also have NextGen installed as well.
Thank you
To set up a gallery, just use WordPress native galleries, or set the rel=”lightbox-xxxxx” instead of rel=”lightbox” on the links!
I am not a programmer but pretty good at editing scripts.
I am currently using this in my blog
This works great for showing a larger picture, I just need it to let me hit next and display the next one in the gallary.
if I do the lightbox-xxxx, whow do I tell it what pictures are assigned to xxxx so that it will display the rest on them in the overlay and not on the page?
You have to set all the pictures links you want to use with rel=”lightbox-xxxx”, that way it should just fine…
Check this sample, it may come of useful: http://www.balupton.com/sandbox/jquery_lightbox_bal/demo/

Ever thought about loading jquery.js in from Google Code (http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxlibs/documentation/index.html#jquery) instead of having it part of the plugin pack? It would make loading of each website a bit faster.
The source would be:
http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js
I’d be interested in an update that has this.
Someone did request this to me, I can’t recall why I didn’t do it… But I tell you what, I’m gonna check that again!
Simply awesome… thank you very much
Simply love this addon – thank you very much!

Checked my active plug-in list, and this one and the gallery maker are the only lightbox apps running.
Thanks.

Great plugin Pedro!
2 things…
1. For the person who asked about getting rid of the download link – rather than editing the js, you can just add display:none; to the CSS for that item.
2. My question is: How do I make the description open when the image opens instead of when I mouse over the large image?
I’m seeing an odd behaviour with wordpress and K2 (nightly build), I think it’s tied to the
div id=”lightbox-overlay” style=”width: 1052px; height: 1393px;
The height is pushing the close window link way to the top… I think because of the height: 1393px;
http://www.ineye-design.com/jon-nelson/photography/
I can’t figure out where to configure the lightbox in the context of this plug-in…
WordPress 2.8.6
K2 1.0-RC8-revision-817 (nightly)
Browser:
Firefox 3.5.5
(Safari 4.0.4, I can’t navigate between images, next and previous)
It’s wierd because when I view other people’s galleries, the close and mouse-over statements float in the upper right, rather than being stuck to the top way off the screen… I’m thinking it’s a CSS conflict.
Replacing the stylesheets that came with the plug-in with the stylesheets from http://plugins.jquery.com/project/jquerylightbox_bal, seems to have fixed my problems!
Thanks a million man!
I’ve spend many hours looking for a such a plugin.
You’re the best!
I’d like to know how to disable the link underneath the picture. Which js file has to be altered, where and how? Thanks!
You can just use CSS to hide the link; Check the comments above…
I love your Plugin; however I’m seeing a full black background on Firefox 3+ on PC and Mac. I’ve tried edited the css min and regular files by adding the necessary opacity references, but this seems to be a Mozilla-only problem, as it looks fine on Safari/IE7.
Have you ever seen problems with Firefox? Thanks in advance!
Wow, I finally figured it out. FYI to anybody out there using this…if you have the following code in your document head, this plugin will not work:
I removed this line, as it is not necessary (though I would have liked to have had it).
Jason, the code in the comment didn’t appear, wordpress removed it… Please add it again with “code” html tags!

Hi Pedro. Its Luis Serrano from Spain.
Im trying to uninstall/delete jQuery Lightbox but once its done, effect keep present on my blog. How can i uninstall jQuery Lightbox at all?
Thanks
Just remove the “jquery-lightbox-balupton-edition” that is at “wp-content/plugins/”… if it still persists, it’s cache of you browser!
Hi again Pedro, thanks. Check this…
Ive deactivated the plugin via wp admin panel, and deleted plugin folder (jquery-lightbox-balupton-edition) via ftp. Once the plugin is totally out and deletion confirmed, i do clean all my browers cache at all. But jQuery still there, Working like a ghost!
- Tested in Firefox (With clean cache)
- Tested in Explorer (With clean cache)
- Tested in Chrome (With clean cache)
- And, tested in Safari (First time use, newly installed for this test)
Somehow, jquery files are still working by server side. Even if I delete the folder manually. Checking files via hosting admin panel or ftp, same result: plugin folder deleted.
From here, I dont know what to do. Please, i need some help to fix it.
Thanks again Pedro.

Can I use this with text.
like inline?
thanks
Dave
No sorry… only if you change the code for yourself!
When I activate this plugin, my entire site is no longer centered. Can you give me an idea on what would be causing this?
Most likely there is a compatibility problem with the CSS on your theme and the CSS of the plugin… :S

i have the plugin working on my images but i get a link to jQuery Lightbox Plugin (balupton edition)and click to close, hover top interact in the top corner, is this possible to turn off ???
thanks richard
You want to remove the message, is that it? Just check the above comments, there’s one here showing how to achieve this with CSS!
Hi, I have been looking through the comments and can’t find how to get rid of the title at the top right “balupton edition”. Can you link me to the comment that says it?
Thankyou very much
Just add the following to your CSS stylesheet!
#lightbox-overlay-text {
display:none !important;
}
Hi,
Thanks for your nice plugin.
I dont want people to download my images on my wp blog so,
I just want to remove the download link that appear under the image frame, i removed the title tag but there is always a link named “untitled”. Is is possible to remove that link?
You can set a title=”" tag on each of the “a” tags, but that won’t remedy the download part, just the “untitled” part…
First, thank you for this great plugin.
Referring to your response above, does this also mean that the link cannot be disabled? I currently use LightBox 2 on my site which does not allow downloading. Also, I am implementing your plugin on my localhost.
Hi Petro i must say that this is a nicely coded plugin great! Thanks for the plugin.
Hi Pedro!
Thanks for this great plugin, but the there is one problem. Plugin seems to be working well, but only on the main page, if I do “cut” posts, it is not working anymore.
Could you advise something?

Great plugin cheers. When the first image opens up, it is dropped down on the page, then when i click the next ones, they rise back up into their proper position. Then when i click prev, the orginal image is back in the correct position again.
It only happens on the first time you open a gallery.
The link is here http://restyleloft.com/wp/loft-conversions/loft-bedroom/
any ideas?
Cheers
